Lots going on…
For a little while now we have been teasing – sorry – that Monday April 27 would hold some BIG NEWS from Team Albert.
We were NOT fibbing…
Some of you might know that April 27 is ALBERT DAY to us.. it is publication day of the first ALBERT picturebook ALBERT UPSIDE DOWN, inspired by real Albert (when he went upside down in author Ian Brown’s garden). While gently being turned right way round, real Albert sparked an idea… That idea became a book by Ian and illustrator Eoin Clarke and published by Graffeg Books. That was 2021. Jump forward to 2026 – and here we are SHELLebrating the 5th anniversary of ALBERT picturebook #1.
As well as marking book #1… what better way to shellebrate could there be than to announce the very latest ALBERT adventure…
Yes – ALBERT picturebook #10 is ALBERT AND THE LONG NIGHT… Officially Out on August 27, you can Pre order now from all over including our shop or other online sellers – but please do support bookshops if you can!
Albert and the garden gang are distrubed by overnight noises… They stay up to investigate and discover a world of night life they didn’t know existed… Once again, inspired by real Albert the tortoise … and confusion sometimes over the meaning of the words… HIBERNATION and NOCTURNAL…

We had a little bit of made-up fun this week too…. as we declared ALBERT was taking part in the London Marathon.
He had all the gear (faked!) – we don’t really dress Albert up.
He had to make sure of his route…
He had to eat properly…
And he did OK.. but didn’t quite match the winner or the world record set – sub 2 hours.
A little reminder that we will be at Jo’s Bookshop in Chingford this Saturday May 2 from 11am with ALBERT and Hugg ‘n’ Bugg storytime… storytelling, tortoises, yetis, dinosaurs and giveaways…
