HELLO – welcome to the very latest news from ALBERT the tortoise HQ – with our friends Hugg n Bugg.
We start with SUPERSIZE NEWS… WE WON AN AWARD.
And not just any award. An award voted by schoolchildren. The best kind of award.
We were thrilled to be on the shortlist of the Heroes Award for picturebooks judged by Cogan Primary School in Penarth, Wales. We were in the running with our book ALBERT SUPERSIZE – in which Albert dreams of dinosaurs and helps them ..and then helps his little chums in the garden. SUPERSIZE was up in both English and Welsh (as Albert Anferth).
That was exciting enough.
BUT this week we got news that we won. We are absolutely thrilled and we send massive thanks (supersize thanks) to all at the school and to publishers Graffeg from writer bloke Ian Brown and illustrator Eoin Clarke.
We believe there will be a trophy – which is very exciting. And apparently the whole school cheered when the result was announced. A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.
We are genuinely delighted to win this – it is all the more amazing as it is voted for by children.
We were also excited to hear this week from a school in Birmingham we visited a while ago – Thornton School.
A modelling / crafting assignment for pupils led two sisters to make a model of the cover of our ALBERT picturebook ALBERT AND THE WIND – complete with tortoise, veggies and a whirlwind of cotton wool. It’s TORTally brilliant. Bravo to all involved. And thanks for sharing the picture.
Please do keep sharing YOUR Albert pictures with us.
Remember, on Thursday April 20 we’re at Merthyr Tydfil Children’s Literature Festival. We hope to see some of you there.
More news soon.
Til next time….
