HELLO – welcome to the latest news from Albert HQ and we are bursting with loads of news…
Here we go..
We went on our biggest tour of schools and bookshops – in terms of miles travelled – this past week. We went to Cornwall in the South West of England.
It’s a lovely county – and you might remember it all started for this visit more than a year ago when a teacher at Portreath School in Cornwall discovered the first Albert picturebook – ALBERT UPSIDE DOWN – and took it into her class.. as well as her own tortoises.
We wanted to visit sooner but the pandemic got in the way.
So we are thrilled to do the more than 600 mile round trip over 4 days to visit three schools, a couple of bookshops and to make some great new chums.
Our first port of call was Portreath School itself.
Multiple sessions there talking about real Albert, tortoises and turtles and reading ALBERT UPSIDE DOWN. It was great to meet all the staff and the pupils.
Massive thanks to all involved.. we even got to take Albert books ot the beach!
After our visit we were thrilled to receive hand-wrritten Thank you notes and Albert drawings from pupils. Thanks to everyone – keep up the good work! Albert was delighted to hear about the Thank you notes.
Next school was Pennoweth… Massive thanks to everyone there for a great visit. It was wonderful to meet so many switched on pupils. Some great questions. Thanks to all.
In between schools – we were able to visit Truro – capital of Cornwall. We dropped by Waterstone’s bookshop there and we were delighted to see copies of ALBERT UPSIDE DOWN on the shelves.. we signed copies and even sold a copy while there. Thanks to a lovely grandmother!
More Albert books are now on order for the store and we are talking about returning in the summer holidays to do an Albert storytime there.. which would be marvellous.
We also hoped to visit STORIES BY THE SEA bookshop in St Ives.. we dropped by but unfortunately the shop was closed because of family illness. We send very best wishes to all at the shop.
Next school was Illogan Primary in Illogan… A top visit meeting some wonderful pupils and staff. Thanks to everyone there who made us so welcome. It was lovely to meet you all.
It was cracking to visit all the schools and we hope we might be able to again before too long.
We were also delighted to chat about the trip and Albert and the books to Tiffany Truscott at BBC Radio Cornwall on her evening show. Thanks Tiffany – much appreciated.
As if the week wasn’t full enough.. we also had a wonderful write-up from a new blogger – all about Albert and the books .. prompted by one of Albert’s totoise pals known as Prince Toby Tortoise. His wrangler Lucy did the writing – and she is very keen on dinosaurs too.. Thanks Lucy and Toby. Very much appreciated.
We are super busy still .. taking part in an Arts Trail and a storytime at Waterstone’s bookshop in St Albans in coming days.
More news on all that soon…
Til next time…
